OY. Words cannot describe how sorry I was to hear of the passing of a great role model and icon- Mary Tyler Moore.

I can describe, however, how she influenced my life. She shaped a young, adolescent girl into the confident and independent LADY I wanted to become.

Some of you may not have seen The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and cannot fully realize how influential her character was. If you haven’t, I’d highly recommend it. It’s appropriate for everyone of every age and every stage of life.

Whether it came to pushing for women’s equality in the workplace, how to act appropriately on a date, or even handling relationships with friends, family, (or maybe your bestie’s crazy mom Mrs. Morgenstern), she always had grace, humor, and a positive attitude. From a young age, I learned that equipped with those three qualities, you can accomplish anything. Basically, being a cheerful, humorous, lady is ALWAYS appropriate.

So thank you, Mary Tyler Moore, for shaping generations of young girls into the women we are today. We wouldn’t be the same without you…
