On November 5, we decided to venture back in time to medieval Limerick with a little jaunt over to King John’s Castle. We knew we wanted to tour a castle while in Ireland, and this particular castle was built in the 13th century by King John. The very King John who was famously associated with the legend of Robin Hood! (I had always heard him referred to as Prince John, but I guess that’s how legends change shape over time…) So obviously, as a huge fan of the Disney rendition of Robin Hood, I had very high hopes.
This courtyard was absolutely gorgeous. Something straight out of a renaissance movie! It makes you feel quite insignificant thinking of how long buildings like this have been standing, and how many generations of visitors they’ve seen in and out of their castle doors.

The glass building is a little gift shop stocked with adorable Irish gifts. I found my mom a little rose sachet packet that was made from an authentic Irish rose garden.
Our pamphlet also said these towers host murder mystery events, which seems like a fun time! They also have archery in the courtyards, juggling with the jester, and BBQ/ Gala dinners in the courtyards. How fun is that?!
Who could ever tire of looking at this view?! Thanks for touring King John’s Castle with me, and I can’t wait to show you all the last segment of Ireland in my next blog post!
